The Science

How Contours Red Light Therapy is Superior To Other Treatments.

Red light therapy is a growing industry, with many different types of treatments available, from fat loss to pain management use cases continue to grow. So why should you choose Contours red light therapy? Contours utilizes a red light technology, which was invented, tested, manufactured, and distributed by Ward Photonics, Inc. The FDA has approved the medical device for body contouring (K 160880) and skin treatments (K 150336). The technology reduces the size of fat cells by modulating a specific type of narrowband non-coherent light. The modulated light tricks the mitochondria in the nucleus of the fat cell into creating a transitory pore in the cell membrane, allowing the fatty acids and triglycerides to escape into the interstitial space. The liberated fat cell contents are then drained by the lymphatic system and processed by the liver and kidneys as part of the body’s normal course of detoxification. The pore in the fat cell will close in about 48-72 hours and the liberated contents will be expelled in the client’s waste over the next few days. In clinical trials, patients averaged 1.6 liters of fat loss from each treatment. Over 98% of patients lost at least two inches of fat at each initial visit, and every patient lost at least 717cc of fat at each visit (1 5/8”). Whole-body vibration therapy has been shown to achieve significant lymphatic stimulation. Results may also be enhanced with massage following treatment. The red light also stimulates the production of collagen for skin rejuvenation.

How We Are Different

How it WorksUses non-confluent photonic energy to stimulate the natural process of lipolysisUses laser-generated heat to destroy targeted tissue.” The FDA describes the Lipolysis Method as being “Heat-assisted"Uses extreme cold to destroy targeted tissue The FDA describes the Lipolysis Method as being “Cold-assisted"Highly invasive technique in cosmetic surgery for removing excess fat from under the skin by using suction under the skin.

Side EffectsNo known side effects or adverse conditions. Reported side effects are pain (including long-term), laser burns, nodule formation, blistering, scars, swelling, fever, abscess, tenderness, and cellulitis.Reported side effects are pain (including long-term), umbilical hernia, gaining fat, enlargement of fat, stretch marks, prolapsed bladder, uterus, and rectum, paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, inflammatory colitis, and deep vein thrombosis. As with any major surgery, liposuction carries risks, such as bleeding and a reaction to anesthesia. Possible complications specific to liposuction include:

Contour irregularities- Your skin may appear bumpy, wavy, or withered due to uneven fat removal, poor skin elasticity, and unusual healing. These changes may be permanent. Damage beneath the skin from the thin tube (cannula) that's used during liposuction may give the skin a permanent spotted appearance.
Fluid accumulation- Temporary pockets of fluid (seromas) can form under the skin. This fluid may need to be drained with a needle.
Numbness- You may feel temporary or permanent numbness in the affected area. Temporary nerve irritation also is possible.
Infection- Skin infections are rare but possible. A severe skin infection may be life-threatening.
Internal puncture- Rarely, a cannula that penetrates too deeply may puncture an internal organ. This may require emergency surgical repair.
Fat embolism- Pieces of loosened fat may break away and become trapped in a blood vessel and gather in the lungs or travel to the brain. A fat embolism is a medical emergency.
Kidney and heart problems- Shifts in fluid levels as fluids are being injected and suctioned out can cause potentially life-threatening kidney, heart, and lung problems.
Lidocaine toxicity- Lidocaine is an anesthetic often administered with fluids injected during liposuction to help manage pain. Although generally safe, in rare circumstances, lidocaine toxicity can occur, causing serious heart and central nervous system problems.
